SPECULATIVE WORK
To allow us the opportunity to create new ideas, and for optimum use of special timbers - we enjoy creating speculative items to complement the particular grain, colour and form of the material. These pieces will then be available to purchase via exhibitions, galleries or directly from the workshop.
COMMISSIONS
As it is not always possible to provide the perfect space for a speculative piece and vice versa, we are sometimes able to adapt a design to different proportions which better suit your needs. If this is not possible for the reason of losing the correct proportions, we would then suggest the commissioning of a completely new design which offers more flexibility right from the drawing board stage. For this process, we would ascertain the 'brief' by gathering information about your specific requirements such as the setting, dimensions, functionality, and budget.

THE PROCESS
After discussing your requirements with you, Rachel transforms this information into images in the form of freehand sketches and where possible a choice of designs are offered to enable feedback and enter into conversation concerning the finer points. If after this initial stage you decide to go ahead with the commission, we would then ask for an appropriate deposit for design time and material costs, and then for the outstanding balance to be paid on delivery. Your order will then be scheduled to the waiting list where we can offer an approximate delivery date. Timber availability varies and usually requires air and kiln drying before being ready to use. Arthur works to detailed technical drawings provided by Rachel and assembles with traditional cabinet making skills. Sometimes more radical thought processes and techniques are employed to achieve the desired effects. In the final stages of construction, Rachel will then add her artistic touches to the work such as unique hand made handles, relief carving, or contemporary stained glass.
